We live in an era of performance appraisals. Ideally, performance reviews inform employers about how effectively staff are operating across a range responsibilities. Ideally also, these are measured against collaboratively agreed upon criteria. The aim is to grow organisational quality with stakeholders: workers, leaders, and those in governance. Constructive appraisal policies and practices grow responsive, evolutionary and adaptable learning organisations. Sometimes reviews are linked to pay-schedules or they might measure outputs and outcomes. However, it's important to make sure appraisal measures are context and process valid; they should enable evidence about past and present and performances to be reliably gathered. It's actually a form of evaluation research which staff at Woodhill Park have undertaken for schools, DHBs, government agencies and PTEs.
